I have had back pain for years and eventually suffered from a herniated disc and had 2 spine surgeries in the span of 2 weeks, ending with a fusion at L5S1 level. I went through my fair share of physiotherapists and I am so grateful to have met Gigi for my post op recovery. The personalised care I received was unmatched with my other experiences.
From the first meeting, Gigi was warm and welcoming. She understood what I was going through. From the early sessions, she made sure to pace the recovery and was always mindful of my personal expectations and comfort level. Having such great support from her, I was committed to the rehab and I met with her around twice a week for 6 months. Throughout my time with her, all questions were welcome, at any time. She was extremely approachable. She took pains to explain the biology and mechanics behind some of these questions as well, which made it easy for me to recall and understand, so that I could be cautious and avoid further injury etc. She was also extremely practical and focused on getting me back to my daily life and activities that were personally applicable to me. She was mindful and listened to my hopes for recovery and tailored each session to whatever was appropriate that day.
Throughout, I felt extremely supported, both physically and emotionally. Whilst it has been a daunting recovery journey, I am so grateful I had Gigi with me. I am now back to normal daily life with a few lifestyle adjustments out of an abundance of caution. Separately I have also referred a few of my colleagues to Gigi and all of them have had equally great experiences.

I raptured all my right ankle ligaments when I fall from about 2-3m height during a bouldering (rock climbing at shorter height without harness) session. Though it was just ligaments rupture, during my recovery, I soon realized that doing my climb or even small details like placing my toes accurately on a spot has become an almost impossible uphill task, and all these are very important to my sport (climbing is like ballerina on toes except it is on vertical walls and balancing on small foot holds). I was feeling upset and spoke to my orthopedic, expressing my keen interest to get back to bouldering and rock climbing. He introduced me to Gigi a sports physiotherapist to get my ankle’s mobility, flexibility back while strengthening the surrounding muscles to replace the role of my ligaments, and get my muscle memory back. During my physiotherapy sessions, Gigi was very encouraging with outstanding manual therapy skills which I think not all physiotherapists have (my mum and younger brother also used to have physiotherapies before when they have total knee replacement and sports injury respectively). Gigi was also very schematic and detailed in sharing the recovery plan with me and bringing me through the role of each exercise so that I have a better understanding of my condition and how to work on improving my ankle even when I am at home and when I ended my physiotherapy sessions with her. Gigi is also very forthcoming and professional in advising the number of session required based on my progress and she really seeks to help her patient achieve full recovery quickly so that money is not spent on any unnecessary extra lesson! I recovered quick and well and ended my physiotherapy with Gigi 3 sessions earlier than I expected. I am now happily climbing and bouldering with improved mobility and strength, all thanks to Gigi’s amazingly dedicated and thorough recovery treatment!

I had a history of septic arthritis complicated by septic shock and arthrofibrosis also had done arthroscopic release on my left knee after which I had limited range of motion and mobility.
The physiotherapy treatment back in hospital was not effective and the Orthopedic Doctor in charge declared that there was no hope for me to recover even with the help of more physiotherapy session. The Orthopedic Doctor in charge however recommended me to go through a silicon injection surgery but with the risk of getting bacterial infection again. I chose not to believe and accept the situation and therefore I went to seek for second opinion and was referred to Gigi by a close friend. The reason why I have chosen to continue the physiotherapy sessions with Gigi was her professionalism and she had given me hope during her first assessment. During her treatment process, she has clearly explained my condition and proposed beneficial treatment. Within a month, my condition improved from knee extension – (0 degree) to (-5 degree) and knee flexion – (90 degree) to (118 degree). Back then, I truly believe my range of motion and mobility can be further improved so I continued with Gigi and just less than 3 month I’m able to start cycling and jogging.
Gigi has discharged me on 26/03/18. I am back on to my feet to carry out any activities, like a normal person who did not go through any septic shock and arthrofibrosis. The overall experience with Gigi and Physiopartner was inspiring and I am very grateful with Gigi for nursing me back to health.

“I had a large slip disc in Feb 2017 and experienced much pain in the left calf while sitting down, numbness in left leg, and left foot drop. After an operation to remove the slip disc, the numbness and foot drop remained as the nerve had been injured. I couldn’t walk normally, and it was good as just walking on one good leg. If I didn’t take note, I can stumble and fall easily. Multiple sprains resulted.
I went to another physiotherapist and made no progress. They only told me to stare at and wiggle my left toes. After 2 sessions, I knew it wasn’t going to work. My medical leave was limited, my wedding was upcoming in May 2017 and I was panicking.
My friend then introduced to me and Gigi is amazing. She tried various methods on me - taped me, used electric therapy, massage, exercises and I managed to lift my limp foot after a few sessions. Gigi monitored my condition and modified the exercises and treatments accordingly. Within 1.5 months I could walk again. I continued with the treatment.
By our wedding in May 2017 I could wear my long wedding dress and walk around and balance myself throughout the day. That included lots of walking and climbing up and down stairs for our wedding photo shoot. In June 2017 we went for our honeymoon in Europe and I had no problem walking around the cobblestoned roads and climbing the steps on the slopes of Greece.
Physiotherapy continued as I got pregnant and Gigi again modified the exercises. When I became too big to move anymore, she massaged the tight muscles around my affected spine area.
To- date (June 2018), there is still slight numbness in my left foot. But I can walk normally (that includes running a little after buses), and I feel confident carrying my baby and taking our daily strolls together.

I was treated by Gigi Kuwan. I presented with persistent low back pain, with tingling at left foot and calf. MRI showed prolapsed L3/4 and L5/S1 discs. I was also suffering from upper back and shoulder stiffness, with neck pain. I had a laminectomy surgery on 5 Feb and Gigi provided post operative rehabilitation.
Gigi was recommended by a work colleague. I have made steady recovery and almost back to 100% post op. with much improved posture and pain management.
Gigi was excellent, she provide whole body assessment and management, recognising all the contributing factors to general back problems, resulting in the lower back injury.

I sustained a slipped disc injury while filming a reality TV series in Malaysia. Fast forward 8 months later, my injury never healed which resulted in me getting an operation on my herniated disk L5/S1.
Physiopartner came highly recommended and I decided to give it a go. Gigi tended to me and I admired her dedication, attention to detail to helping me get better. So…after a series of sessions, I actually got better. Now it wasn’t by any sense of the means easy, but they taught me various techniques and gave me the self belief that I could get better…and now, I’m back to playing football again!
